If you get out to Glenorchy early enough in the morning, you can see these amazing shadows from one set of mountains projected across the lake onto another set of mountains. One of the more stunning things about the mountains around Lake Wakatipu is how they have very steep faces jutting out of the water. It's basically the same mountain shapes as in the fjords not to far away. If I'm not mistaken, all of this used to be a fjord at the beginning of the most recent ice age. I was trying to be the last one in The Vessel to get some of these cool dusk shots after the sun set. I like to do this one simple trick where you simply put the camera on the ground (with a wide-angle lens) and shoot straight up in the air with a timer on. The view out of my room at the Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai was absolutely amazing. I could just sit in the easy chair and watch the world go by. One day, a rather wicked storm came blowing through the city. I was about to go out and take photos (I like taking photos in the rain), but it was a little too rainy and stormy... so I decided to have a lazy afternoon and just take photos out the window!
